I am looking for visual design best practice guidelines for use with user interface design of tables of information within an application.

The information that users will be interacting with is predominantly financial, and is proposed to look and feel like Excel.  Users will be filtering information, drilling down and up heirarchies, and entering forecast data.

I am familiar with the table principles as described in Show Me the Numbers, and was wondering what impact the ability to interact with tables has on the design fundamentals.

In particular:
. The best way to identify summary rows, vs drilldown sub-level rows, by use of shading, white space, indentation, or row dividers.
. How to identify values that are editable vs values that are not
. Prominance given to interactive Filter Selections in the view
. The best way to layout buttons for refresh and commit actions.
