Do we know when the second edition of IDD will be released? I read somewhere (lost the reference) that it is due in the first half of 2013. I would like to know if we have a more precise date. Thanks.

Francis,

Yes, the second edition of Information Dashboard Design will be published is July of this year. I'll be announcing this fact in my blog soon and will describe what's new or different in the second edition.

Good afternoon,
I am a new explorer of the subject for a project I have to do for my work - implementation of an executives dashboard and infographics recent trends application.

I am reading the first edition of "Information Dashboard Design" and I have read in your blog what do you summarize as new content in the second edition.
To make me better understand the current state of the art, considering that the first one is dated 2006, I would like to ask you if the current 2013 library of dashboard display media will show new tools or if after some years you still consider those ones the main representatives and useful in the panorama of dashboards and visual performance management.

Thanks in advance.
Kind regards.

Hi marbuo82,

In the new edition of Information Dashboard Design, I've expanded the list of graphs that are typically appropriate for dashboards only slightly. Here's the list:
  • Bullet Graphs *
  • Bar Graphs *
  • Dot Plots *
  • Line Graphs *
  • Sparklines *
  • Box Plots *
  • Scatter Plots
  • Spatial Maps
  • Heat Maps
  • Tree Maps
The graphs with asterisks next to them are those that are most commonly useful for monitoring displays. There are occasions, of course, when other graphs are useful for special cases, but this list is sufficient for 99% of the dashboards that are needed.

Good Morning Few,

I wanted to say thank you for writing this book.  I enjoyed every page. Though I'm on the last two chapters I went ahead and ordered "Show Me the Numbers" & "Now You See it" and am eagerly awaiting for it's arrival.  Have a great day!
